 Turtleback Farm Summer Program 2018  • 9:00 – 3:00 • 6/25 – 8/31 • Ages 5-13  

Activities include Cooperative Games, Basic Carpentry, Gardening (vegetable and native plants), Wilderness Survival Skills, Nature Studies, Science, Arts & Crafts,  Music, Writing/Journaling, Kickball, Archery,  Soccer, Basketball, Newcomb,  Orienteering (maps & compass), Culinary Arts, Wildlife Conservation Projects, Hiking,  Rock Climbing and more. 

Themes: July 23 – Carpentry Basics  July 30 - Go Native!  August 6 – Just an Otter Day    August 13 – Wilderness Survival  August 20 - Bird is the Word   August 27 – Orienteering

Just an Otter Day: Prepare to get wet as we explore the daily life and natural history of the River Otter which is  making a comeback on the North Fork. We’ll also learn about the Long Island River Otter Project, a great citizen science project for all! 

Wilderness Survival: Kids will learn the basics of wilderness survival from common wild edibles found right in our own backyards to fire starting and shelter building. …Of course s’mores are involved!

Bird is the Word: This eggcellent week we focus on birds from basic anatomy to unique adaptations. We will observe birds on the farm, and our laying flock will act as our learning lab, from feather to egg!

Orienteering: Find your way around the farm by observing the natural world and using a map and compass. Group challenges and scavenger hunts and orienteering courses, oh my!

Ages 5-13 (Kindergarten through 7th grade) This summer program is most suitable for children ages 7-11. We have a CIT program for 12-13 year olds (Counselor in Training).  Please Note: Participant Numbers will not exceed ten children per week for the month of August, not including CIT’s. 

Program Fees: $300 per week ● $250 CIT’s ● $250 for add’l sibling  (We no longer offer the per day rate)

Turtleback Farm Summer Program is a full day program running all summer on a private farm in rural Cutchogue on the North Fork. This program is designed to enrich the lives of youth through a myriad of experiential hands-on activities, socialization, and cooperative activities. Please Note: Electronic Devices are not permitted at this summer program!

Jennifer, the Program Director, is a former Elementary, Science, and Writing Teacher with a Masters Degree in Education. She has experience creating curriculums at Friends Academy and developing environmental education programs and activities at Theodore Roosevelt Sanctuary in Oyster Bay and other locations.

The Cross Farm is a 30 acre former plant nursery consisting of various habitats including woodlands, fields, and freshwater ponds, making it an ideal location for environmental studies. It is located just west of Pellegrini Vineyards in Cutchogue.
